Defined as; a small ridge or furrow especially when formed on a surface by the shrinking or contraction of a smooth substance, specifically in the skin due to age, worry, or fatigue, wrinkles are regarded by many as something to ward off at all costs, thus the multi billion dollar fight to keep them at bay. Each year after the age of 20, people produce about one percent less collagen in their skin. Along with reduced function in sweat and oil glands and less elastin production, slight wrinkles will naturally occur. Add to the equation outside factors such as excessive alcohol consumption, sun exposure, poor diet and cigarette smoking and wrinkles seem inevitable for all of us but massage can greatly reduce wrinkles and help prevent them from forming in the first place. Regular light facial massage promotes blood circulation in the face and head while encouraging the production of hydrating oils. Massage also strengthens the facial muscles and diminish existing wrinkles while preventing new ones from forming.
Wrinkles Be Gone
Between regular facials and professional massage treatments, you can give yourself a simple facial massage a couple of times each week to decrease the chance of getting wrinkles. Gently exfoliate your skin, rinse with cool water and begin to work the areas of your face – the neck, cheeks, under the eyes, temples, forehead and sinus area by gently rubbing in a circular motion or dragging the back of your hand across your face and cheeks. Work in an upward and/or outward motion. Giving yourself a proper facial massage should take about 10-15 minutes no less than twice each week to be effective.
